Waves Vienna is an annual showcase festival and music-industry conference, now in its 16th edition. From 1 to 3 October, more than 100 acts, mostly emerging artists with international potential, play clubs and venues along Vienna's Gürtel, with the United Kingdom as this year's guest of honour. The conference moves to the Albert Hall in the 8th district and brings artists and music professionals together for panels, workshops, feedback sessions, artist pitches and networking receptions. A main focus is sync, the use of music in film, television, games and advertising, alongside music export, international mobility, rights management, gender equality and the future of the European music ecosystem. A new Young Professionals Programme, run with mica – music austria, gives selected newcomers a kick-off workshop and morning check-in sessions, and the XA – Export Award goes to one of six nominated Austrian acts. A Block Party at Spittelau opens the weekend on the evening of 30 September.
