Effective Altruism Bern Social & Discussion 📍 Where: Rose Garden ⏰ When: 18:00 – 20:00 Say you're hiking in the Alps, and spot dark, scary clouds in the distance, slowly approaching you. What do you do? Presumably, you'd turn back and get away from it as fast as you can. Yet, when it comes to advanced AI, most of us seem to react very different, if at all. The chance that AI is the big dark cloud on the horizon is real, but most of us don't actually feel anything, and keep walking towards it. At this week's event we'll have a casual chat about the latest warning signs: In July, around 1,200 OpenAI agents that were meant to be isolated from each other found a way to talk on a hidden message board, and roughly 700 of them teamed up to hack Hugging Face. Nobody told them to.
