Bridges Over Basel — Fourth Edition | Career paths beyond academia: Venture Capital What does it take to move from the bench into venture capital — and how does early-stage biotech actually get built and funded? Bridges Over Basel (BOB) brings together PhD students, postdocs and life-sciences professionals to explore careers beyond academia. For our fourth edition, we turn to the world of venture capital: the investors and company-builders who turn scientific discoveries into companies. Three leading figures from Basel's VC scene will share how they made the move from science into investing, what the work involves day to day, and what they look for in the founders and scientists they back. Our panel: Morgan Hunter — Investment Manager, BiomedVC Alexander Mayweg — Managing Director, Versant Ventures Giulia Vestri — Partner, Claris Ventures The evening opens with a one-hour moderated panel discussion, followed by an apéro — an informal chance to continue the conversation and to meet our speakers and fellow researchers over a drink.
