In this session, we will share the journey of implementing an AWS KMS solution backed by AWS CloudHSM for regulated financial institutions. **Designing Sovereignty on AWS: From KMS to European Sovereign Cloud** In this talk, we use our fictional startup Unicorn Rentals to walk through a practical sovereignty journey on AWS. We start with the basics of AWS Key Management Service (KMS) and progress through increasingly strict control models, including customer-managed keys, Hardware Security Modules (HSMs), and dedicated cryptographic boundaries. From there, we explore what AWS Sovereign-by-Design means in practice and how the AWS European Sovereign Cloud extends those guarantees with additional control, residency, and isolation properties. You’ll learn: How AWS KMS works and which options you have for key storage and cryptographic operations When and why to move to HSM-based approaches How regions, partitions, and the European Sovereign Cloud fit into a sovereignty strategy \-\-\- As usual, we are always looking for new speakers and topics.
