In the past few months, an AI system solved a Millennium Prize problem, and the people building these systems started asking the world to slow down. π The leading AI labs are openly working towards systems that outperform humans at almost all cognitive work, and many of their researchers expect this within years, not decades. AI Futures asks the obvious follow-up question: what happens if they're right? What would it mean for our jobs and the economy, for how society works, and for the risks we'd need to get ahead of? And what can we do to help it go well? Throughout the semester, we'll work through these questions together. Each session is grounded in evidence, up to date with the latest developments, and leaves room to discuss and form your own view. The Path to AGI kicks off the series. We'll trace how we got here, from Turing to today's AI agents. We'll look at what drives progress, what current models can and can't yet do, and how big a deal this could be compared to other major technologies in history. No technical background needed. Each session stands on its own, so join for one or for all of them. Registration is required. Once you're registered, you'll receive updates about the event, including the exact room. π Thursday, Oct 1 - 18:30-20:00 π ETH Main Building - Room tbd
